Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid Cancer in Pompano Beach, Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, FL

The swelling of the thyroid gland (goiter) or thyroid nodules can be signs of thyroid cancer. Thyroid nodules do not always mean cancer, they could be benign (adenoma). Other ways to identify thyroid cancer include hoarseness, difficulty breathing or swallowing, weight loss, coughing, swollen lymph nodes and neck pain.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, Dr. Lapco will use a technique that best fits your needs. Diagnostic techniques for thyroid cancer identification include ultrasound, fine needle biopsy, CT scan or nuclear medicine.

Treatment for thyroid cancer may include surgery to remove the cancerous tissue and radioactive iodine treatment may also be recommended. Depending on the severity of your cancer, radiation and/or chemotherapy may also be required. To keep your metabolism functioning at an optimal level, a pill for replacement thyroid hormones will be prescribed and taken for the remainder of your life in cases where the thyroid is surgically removed.

If you have lasting symptoms that are suggestive of one of these cancers, please contact our office right away and schedule an appointment with one of our otolaryngologists. Dr. Lapco’s Pompano Beach office is located in Broward County just 10 miles from Coral Springs and 12 miles from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
